Abstract: This paper statistically investigates the stateoftheart of the underground space in urban area from the effect of environmental geology, footprint and vertical layout of the underground spaces. Aspects of embedment depth, embedment depth to span ratio, space height and span length ratio, supporting structure, surrounding rock mass, seepage and stability are statistically evaluated. It is concluded that the shallow embedded underground spaces are usually densely distributed but these have rare further development potentials. The medium and deeply embedded underground spaces have more development potentials.
