Abstract: Embankments with pile supported frame structures have been used in the levee construction over marine soft soils. The performance of this type of embankment under the backfill soil load is infrequently investigated. This paper presents the results of “Performance of Embankment with Pile Supported Frame Structure Over Soft Soils”, which was funded by Zhejiang Hydraulic Engineering Research Program. A threedimensional finite element model simulating the staged construction was established by using commercial software MIDAS GTS. The deformation and stress in the frame structure were compared with the construction monitored data. The deformations before and after the soil backfill operation were evaluated. It is concluded that the embankment with pile supported frame structure is a viable solution of the levee construction over marine soft soils.
