Abstract: Mass collapses are one of the most common hazards in the mountain areas. For highway embankment collapses, the pressure grouting and the dynamic compaction are the most common remediation methods. This paper presents a case history of the highway embankment collapse at Ergangqiao of MianMao Highway. The collapse body was back analyzed with strength parameters obtained from the insitu tests. The strength and deformation of the dynamic compaction treated embankment are estimated. The settlements on the highway during and after the construction are monitored by using different monitoring methods in order provide a satisfactory remediated embankment that carrying the highway operational live loads.
